Description After 40+ years of producing marionettes, National Marionette Theatre is cleaning house! Up for sale is an original marionette by David Syrotiak depicting a merman. This character was produced circa 1972 for a children’s theater production that toured the country. This figure is one of three from that production that are posted here on EBay. The figure is approximately 36 inches long. The head is made in the traditional cast plastic wood technique. The shoulder block, hands and arms are carved basswood. The elbow joints are trunk fiber ball and socket with dowel pins, while the shoulder and wrist joints are rope. The tail is made of concentric discs of plywood that have been joined by two long ropes with knots separating the discs. The entire tail was then covered in a stretchy fabric and then the outer covering. The result is an incredibly flexible and expressive tail that moves very realistically when manipulated. This marionette is an absolute joy to perform with and is built to last for many years to come.
