IRON WALKING ELEPHANT' Description This is an original patent 1873 iron toy walking elephant made by the Ives Toy Co. of Bridgeport, Conn. Patent 1873 is incised in the side of the elephant in the casting. This toy was produced circa 1873-1890's.The toy was produced by Ives in two versions. One of the versions was made with an iron body & lead legs. This is the other & much more popular, scarce, & valuable version which has both an iron body & iron legs. It measures 3 3/8" long by 2 3/4" tall. Please note that there is dust on the feet in the pics & most of the original finish is present on the feet.The example offered has all original finish with only slight wear. There are no breaks, no repairs, & no touchups. Actually, in over 40 years of buying toys this is one of the finest examples condition-wise that I have ever seen & the nicest one condition-wise that I have ever had an opportunity to own.
