Description
Up for auction is a Aster Mogul LIVE STEAM Locomotive<p> A magnificent model in remarkable detail in typical Aster quality. Aster is considered to be the producer of the finest commercially made live steam engines in the world. Others may equal their quality, but these are few, and their output cannot rival Aster's. Aster is the standard to which most small-scale live steamers compare the other builders. This model is built from a Kit, since I built several Aster and Regner locomotives it can be considered to be a professional assembly just like a RTR model directly from Aster. A RTR model runs around $5,000.00 here is your chance to own one at a much lower price. This loco was steamed up about 8 to 10 times on my out door layout only, it runs about 30 to 45 min on one fill of gas and water, truly remarkable. Truly a stunning view when running the loco and his mechanical movements of this unit are just beautiful. Well, I primarily collect 1:32 locomotives, however it is somewhat an odd ball in my collection, and to run it properly I would need to buy all scale prototype cars, which would be a enormous investment, besides I need money to pay for the tracks needed to finish my outdoor layout!! I fought the decision to sell it for quite some time, since it is a magnificent model just to even looking at it, but at the same time too expensive and a shame to be a “Shelf Queen”, this loco was designed to run and run! It is also the easiest to run loco compare to earlier Aster models with his boiler drain cock, cylinder cock and more accessible controls. Loco comes in his original Box with all manuals, display track, parts and supplies, box will be double boxed for shipment, model will be packaged for safe shipping, pick up in person is possible too. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to e-mail me.   Now to shipping, this large locomotive is very heavy, with it and all the packaging it will be around 20 to 25lbs. and the shipping box is considered by UPS oversize 1, I do not try to get rich on shipping, just keep in mind the weight and size of the box which results in a higher shipping charge. I ship UPS only (insurance at UPS is the best), International bidders need to pay a $10.00 document fee and pay with Paypal only, no exception. International shipping will be UPS expedited, so be ready to pay $100.00 or more for shipping depending on country!   Colorado & Southern Mogul It was once stated that if all model railroads truly reflected their prototypes then at least one half of the total railway mileage in the United States must have been narrow gauge.  In actual fact, less than 1% of US railroads were narrow gauge, but the spectacular beauty of both the railroads and the locomotives that operated over them has captured the imagination of railroad enthusiasts everywhere.  No narrow gauge line has sparked more interest than three-foot gauge 'Little Giants' that conquered Colorado's Rocky Mountains.  Most of what was to become the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad was initially constructed by several small construction firms.  With routes out of Denver, to the south, blocked by Santa Fe, these companies turned west toward the rugged Rocky Mountains.  In order to traverse such rough terrain, engineers implemented such innovations as spiraling loops, steep grades and extremely long tunnels. It was decided that three-foot gauge would provide the most economical solution to the construction problem since powerful yet compact engines could be built.  The Union Pacific was supporting two Colorado narrow gauge lines during the 1870 - 1888 time period, the Colorado Central and the Denver, South Park & Pacific.    In the early 1880's the UP purchased sixteen identical 2-6-0's from the Brooks Locomotive Works of Dunkirk, NY, for use on these narrow gauge lines.   The locomotives were fitted with Stephenson valve gear driving slide-valves and were coal-fired.  In 1898, the UP returned the Denver, South Park & Pacific to independent status and, after some reshuffling, it emerged in 1902 as the Colorado and Southern.  By then, all but two of the Brooks Moguls had been scrapped; South Park No. 35 was rebuilt into Colorado & Southern No. 22.  Eventually, this locomotive was withdrawn from service in 1927 and scrapped.  ASTER modeled the C&S No. 22 as she appeared later in her career during the mid 1920's.  A scale of 1/22.5 was chosen so that it would be compatible with G Scale rolling stock and accessories. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.
