Description
Toy Name FREE Domestic Shipping Only Toy Name: Yonezawa, Opel Olympia Rekord '56 Sedan in Original Box Year: 1956 Description: Fantastic embossed tin litho friction drive Opel Olymia Rekord, two-door sedan. Manufactured by Yonezawa. All original paint. All original parts. In incredible near mint condition and complete with original box! It was accurately designed to duplicate the actual full scale Opel. Beautiful two-tone combination of cherry red body (slightly orange tinge) and gray (with a slight green tinge) roof which included embossed window dividers. In addition the roof has a wonderful crackle design giving it a pseudo-three dimensional affect. The crackle is at the "base" of the litho while the exterior is smooth as glass and looks amazing. The single plate chassis base is solid black. Structurally it has rounded front and rear quarter panels, with the rear partially covering the tire. Doors and trunk are embossed. Chassis has simple embossing mostly to enhance the ruggedness of the wide plate. The Yonezawa logo was also embossed into the chassis; centered just behind the rear axle. Sedan is loaded with chrome! Includes front and rear windshield frames, hood ornament, door latches, accurate radiator and trunk shields, front and rear wrap around bumpers, grille frame housing an awesome tilted oval striated grille, taillights, headlight rings, fender skirts, and raised side moldings (two sections on both sides of the car). The tires are solid black rubber with treads. Each has a whitewall with a narrow green outline, and chrome plated centers with red bulls-eyes. The front wheels are also capable of manually turning left or right. It has both of its original celluloid windshields. And to top it off the bubble style headlights are solid glass. Interior designed with front and rear plaid bench seats (brown, beige, with black lines). Front seat embossed in the center creating two partitioned seats, while the rear has three. Accurately detailed dashboard lithoed mint green with black lines. Steering wheel is chrome plated tin. The box cover features a full color illustration of the car shown from a ¾ perspective. A "smartly dressed" couple are making a trip along the San Francisco shore line showing the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. The drawing accurately reflect the toy although it does appear slightly elongated. The box was printed with the Yonezawa trademark in the lower right corner. Size: 11½". Condition: Absolutely superb near mint condition with dazzling litho surfaces that just gleam. Colors are strong, uniform, and without any fading; highlighted by a beautiful aged patina. Paint is all original without any touch-up's, or repainting. This was verified with both standard lighting and blacklighting. Not a single ding or spot of rust. In fact the litho's condition points are very few; two, nearly invisible pinpoint size rubs on the left rear roof corner (you'll have to look hard to find them even in person). The red lithoed body is 100% pristine. I couldn't find anything that would impact its grade. The black chassis is also outstanding with only a faint, small scuff on the embossed edges just behind the front right tire, on the raised strip between the rear wheels (which accommodates the friction motor), and several tiny scattered nicks on some of the front embossed edges (in front of the wheels, behind the front wheel, and near the right rear tab. And speaking about tabs.... all four are flat as a board making perfect contact with the body. The tabs themselves have smooth flat surfaces with no raised edges. The chrome is all "mirror" bright with only the striped body molding on the right side showing any dulling. All four whitewalls show some yellowing from age and the tires haven't any rim wear. The celluloid windshields are firmly attached to their perimeter tabs, however they do have some slight waviness. Lastly, the front wheels turn easily and the friction motor works beautifully. The condition of the box compliments the sedan. It's complete with all original cover flaps and grades excellent. The cover illustration is bold without any fading. It has only a faint tinge of age yellowing. Three of the covers edges have barely any wear; just sporadic chipping. The left edge has only a narrow wear line. This occurred because both corners on this side were split. In fact the upper left split had more roughness and corner wear as compared to the lower left. Some tearing extended into the edge seams, but only to less than ½" long. These corners also have some skirt creasing, but it's not extensive. The left apron has three tiny surface print chips just to the left of the "56", while the right acquired a tiny surface chip near the staple and bottom edge. The other three aprons have only six faint, short creases. Probably the most pronounced occurred at the rear apron, upper right corner. In addition the covers right corners have just corner rubs less than 1/8" wide. The corner and edge tears mentioned have all been repaired. Lastly, its original "1.69" price written in grease pencil can be seen in the upper right corner, and the name of "mike" is barely visible in the lower right corner (just below the left rear tire). The box bottom does have warping, tears, and creasing due to the weight of the toy. One edge is creased horizontally from end to end. This crease is beginning to crack on the inner surface and developed edge wear on the exterior. One of the shorter ends was torn along the seam at the base and a triangular shaped piece of cardboard was torn away. Most of it was torn as a surface tear. Only the lower ½" was actually torn off the box (see last box photo). The base of the box bottom is also slightly convex with some creasing on one edge and rubs from tire contact.
